Gull On The Roof is built on a simple belief: pottery should be both practical and beautiful. Its functional pieces are made from durable stoneware that's both microwave and dishwasher safe, so they're made to be used and enjoyed every day, not just admired on a shelf. Alongside them sit the whimsical pieces, made simply to make you smile.
Everything is handmade by Laura in small batches, and each glaze is applied by hand, so no two pieces are ever quite the same.

Meet the Potter
Hello there and fàilte! I'm Laura, the potter behind Gull on the Roof. I spent my early childhood in Banff, on the North East coast of Scotland (where the gulls really do sit on the roofs!), before moving to the Central Belt to attend St Mary's Music School. After graduating from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland), I spent 37 years teaching stringed instruments.
During the pandemic, I took up pottery as a hobby. It has now grown completely out of control... and I love it! Like music, clay rewards patience, practice, and a good sense for when something feels right.
Today I work from my studio in West Lothian, making a wide range of both functional and whimsical pieces - all inspired by the colours and textures of Scotland's landscapes. Thank you for stopping by, I hope you find something you love.
